EVERYTHING BUT THE SALT!
The SunGuard Salt System Support Kit is the foundation for the SunGuard Salt System program that enables you to operate your salt chlorine generator efficiently while maintaining remarkably clear, blue water and protecting your pool and equipment. This kit prepares up to 10,000 gallons of pool water and contains SunGuard Sunburst Fast Shock, UV Defense and Mineral & Scale Control. Apply the contents of this kit or multiple kits for larger pools after establishing the salt level recommended by your salt chlorine generator manufacturer. Then just add SunGuard Salt System Weekly (sold separately) to the pool each week to maintain your water quality and your pool protection – could it be easier?
SUNGUARD SALT SYSTEM START-UP:
1. Pool Equipment Check: Make sure your filtration system is operating properly. Clean or replace the cartridge and DE elements and backwash sand filters thoroughly. If your filter sand hasn’t been replaced within the last five years, consider replacing it or at least cleaning it with a quality sand filter cleaner.
2. Balance your water: Total Alkalinity at 125 – 150ppm; Calcium Hardness at 200 -275ppm for plaster pools or 175 – 225ppm for vinyl, painted, or fiberglass pools; and pH at 7.2 – 7.6. Salt (chloride) content 3,000 – 3,500 ppm or as recommended by generator manufacturer.
3. Remove any chemicals from the skimmer.
4. Add kit contents (One Kit for each 10,000 gallons or part of 10,000 gallons of water) following the directions on each container in the Kit. The filtration system should be operated a minimum of 8 hours following this treatment.
5. The SunGuard Sunburst Fast Shock in the kit, applied according to label directions, will establish initial chlorine residual in the pool.
6. Begin operation of your salt chlorine generator according to the manufacturer’s directions. Test free chlorine level 24 hours after starting your chlorine generator. If the chlorine level is less than 1 ppm adjust the generator to increase chlorine output until the free chlorine level is between 1.0 and 1.5 ppm.
ONCE-A-WEEK MAINTENANCE:
1. Test the chlorine residual and the pH using your regular Test Strips or Test Kit. The total and free chlorine residual should be 1.0 – 1.5 ppm and the pH should be maintained at 7.2 – 7.6ppm.
2. Add SunGuard Salt System Weekly (one bag (1 lb.) per 5,000 gallons or part of 5,000 gallons) by carefully adding to the skimmer with the system operating. Allow the system to operate at least 6 hours after treatment.
3. If experiencing low free chlorine residual due to heavy use or inclement weather, add one bag (1 lb.) of SunGuard Sunburst Fast Shock per 10,000 gallons directly to the deep end of the pool with the pump running. Use your pool brush to distribute any undissolved product that settles to the bottom. You can swim as soon as the chlorine residual is 3.0 ppm or below; as soon as 15 minutes after application.
