Sunguard Super Cal Shock 1 lb Cal Bags – Cal treat for pool
The weather in combination with bathers constantly entering your swimming pool makes your pool water vulnerable to dangerous bacteria, algae growth, and various microorganisms. Bathers leave tons of body oils, cosmetics such as hair sprays and makeup, and sweat in your swimming pool after they are done swimming. If these contaminants are left in the pool for long periods of time, they can lead to algae growth, clogged pool system, wearing down of pool liner, and acidic water that can be dangerous to your swimmers. The Sunguard Super Cal Shock 1lb cal bags are powerful, neatly packaged chemicals that effectively fight off all of the bacteria, dirt, and algae in your swimming pool.
The Sunguard Super Cal Shock is a quick-dissolving form of granular calcium hypochlorite that tends to be stronger than most pool shocks. The super shock has a chlorine concentration of 70% available chlorine when applied to your swimming pool. The Sunguard Super-Cal Shock is a premium sanitizer that serves multiple purposes such as sanitizing your pool from bacteria, fighting off algae on your pool walls & floor, and disinfecting your pool water from swimmers.
BENEFITS OF SUPER CAL SHOCK:
Strong Chlorine Concentration:Â The Super Cal Shock is much stronger than regular pool shocks. It is made of granular calcium hypochlorite which is usually used for chlorination, but with 70% available chlorine when dissolved, it is very effective at sanitizing and disinfecting your pool from bacteria, algae, suntan lotions, body oils, and other various microorganisms. 1 pound of cal treats 17,500 gallons – 75% more than standard calcium hypochlorite.
Multi-Purpose Super shock:Â The Super Cal shock is powerful enough to chlorinate your pool, but in smaller doses, it can be used as a routine maintenance pool shock. It is a fast-acting multi-purpose sanitizer good for treating algae and destroying bacteria in your pool. You do not need to mix it with any special liquids before using it in your pool. It works similar to a normal shock but with slightly more strength.
Pool Shock for Algae Control:Â The Sunguard Super Cal Shock is great at ridding your pool walls and pool floor of algae. Simply add the super shock as close to the area of your pool where the algae are growing and immediately scrub the affected area with a brush. Then proceed to vacuum the area and make sure to cycle through the filter. Repeat this treatment if necessary.
Works With Other Pool Chemicals: Our Super Cal bag provides a sufficient amount of chlorine residual in your pool that will constantly work to destroy algae, clear up cloudy or hazy water, and organic contaminants from humans and nature. It can be used in combination with chlorine, but with such a high concentrate of chlorine, make sure to thoroughly test your pool water so you don’t over shock your pool. It is also good for lowering your water hardness and stopping massive fluctuations of your pool water’s pH levels.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
- For unstabilized pools: 5-7 ounces per 10,000 gallons of water daily or as needed.
- For stabilized pools: 3-5 ounces per 10,000 gallons of water every other day or as needed.
- Available chlorine levels must be between 1- 4 ppm before re-entering the pool. Depending on water conditions, additional shocking may be necessary.
APPLICATION OF CAL BAGS
Before using the Super Cal Shock, test to make sure all of your pool equipment is up to date and working. Your goal is to maintain:
- pH between (7.2 – 7.6)
- Total Alkalinity (60-120 ppm)
- Calcium Hardness above (200 ppm)
To apply the Cal bags, simply open them up and disperse the correct dosage amount in the deepest part of your swimming pool with the pump running. It is recommended to apply the shock during the evening hours when no one will be swimming. Your pump needs to run for at least 2 hours after the treatment.
For Shock Treatment:
Check the levels of your pH, Total Alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness and adjust properly before treating. Cal treat your pool using 16 ounces per 17,500 gallons of water. You should shock treat your pool on a weekly basis.

I always use sunguard in my pool. I regularly shock my pool. I alternate between multiburst (stabilized and clarifier) and super cal (non stabilized). It’s the best of both worlds. Too much stabilized raises the cya. Too much cal shock raises the calcium. Using both ways to shock keeps my levels just right.
